A Meditation on Rulers
Lord, remind me of the good news of your reign.
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things were created through Him and for Him.” (Colossians 1:15-16)
Turn our hearts toward worship in this time of upheaval and uncertainty.
“Blessed be the Name of God forever and ever,
to whom belong wisdom and might;
He changes times and seasons;
He removes kings and sets up kings.”
(Daniel 2:20-21)
May your Name be held in the highest esteem among your people.
“The Most HIgh rules the kingdom of mankind and sets over it whom He will.”
(Daniel 5:21)
Give us eyes to see the unseen reality of your authority over all things.
“Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings on earth.” (Revelation 1:4-5)
Give us a godly sense of proportion and purpose as we live our lives as pilgrims and strangers passing through this life to our true home.
“All the nations are as nothing before Him,
they are accounted by Him as less than nothing and emptiness…
It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,
and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers;
who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
and spreads them like a tent to dwell in;
who brings princes to nothing;
and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness.”
(Isaiah 40:17, 22-23)
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your almighty, sovereign, holy reign.
“The one who conquers, I will grant to sit with me on My throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on His throne.” (Revelation 3:21)
